Team Canada announces 10 recipients of 2020 OLY Canada Legacy Grant
Research has shown that children in underserved and Black communities in Canada face barriers to sport participation due to minimal access to appropriate resources. The NexGEN Project aims to break these barriers and introduce these children from ages 4 to 10 to multiple sports, helping young athletes realize their athletic potential. The non-profit Quest Sports Academy launched the NexGEN Project to equal the playing field in sports at the grassroots level.
The NexGEN Project started as a result of emerging crises from the COVID-19 Pandemic. What began with three children through zoom quickly grew to over thirty children within two months. As children were restricted from outdoor play, we set out to keep as many children as possible physically and mentally engaged in this unprecedented time.
As a result of our efforts, we are now proud recipients of the Olympic Legacy Grant from the Canadian Olympic Committee. The Grant will be used specifically for families who qualify and will receive subsidies for the program.
